High School Oh! High School..... These are the years I hold very close to my heart. In High School I was a very bubbly, silly, and a very self- conscious young girl. During high school is when my seemingly perfect world shifted; up until this point I had no major worries.
My parents got a divorce! We moved out of our family house that I absolutely loved and moved into
a two bedroom apartment just my mother, brother and I. Not to mention we had to
leave my dog with my dad. My dog was literally my little sister her name was Hallie. She slept in my bed with me and I spoiled her rotten. But that was just one of the major blows to my once amazing childhood the next
happened around a year later. My mother got into a bad car accident and broke
both her arms. From this moment on I had to take on some of the mommy duties
which entailed cooking dinner for all three of us, and helping my little
brother get prepared for school the next day. The last situation was probably the situation that really hurt the
most because seeing my mother like that was horrible. I had a lot of support from my aunts, and
grandmothers but seeing my mother that way was absolutely horrible. My
relationship with my mom is extremely strong and deep she is the reason I do
everything I do, and I adore her. So with all of these negative issues occurring in my family
along with trying to deal with the issues of being a teenager was a lot to deal
with. It was also hard to focus solely on school because of all the things that were occurring in my home life. I managed to maintain a pretty good gpa and stay very active in extra curricular activities. I am happy to say that I made it through all of those problems and it
made me a stronger person. My whole entire outlook on life changed I realized a
lot of life lessons that I believe most people probably do not learn until
adulthood. One of those things was that even when life gets hard you have to
pick yourself up and continue to move forward. I also have to credit the fact
that I have a religious background that helped me to cope with the trials I was
dealing with at the time. The lessons I learned early in life have impacted me
to the fullest; therefore when negative situations seem to be arising I just
take them a day at a time but always continue to progress in a positive way. It
took a very long time for me to realize this as I was developing into an adult
but once I realized that things will go bad at some point but it is the way you
pull through that ultimately matters. Now I never even fathom the idea of
giving up when bad situations arise whether in my family or in friendships it
makes me work so much harder. This is one of the reasons I want to be a teacher
because I feel that I maybe the only positivity a student comes in contact with
and I want them all to know and understand that they can conquer anything. My
students will leave the classroom with knowledge that will stay with them for a
lifetime. I believe that educating students transforms lives and the experience
of teaching will bring fulfillment to mine.

One of my favorite poems by Langston Hughes:
Mother to Son
Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor--
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now--
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
